The Free Box

Yesterday while out at the yard sales, I kept thinking about starting a new blog called The Free Box just so I can have a place to share all the odd, creepy and sometimes gross things waiting in the Free Box.

You know, that box of stuff that the seller's standards have deemed 'unsellable' for whatever reason so they're giving it away. Often times, it's things that are in a transition phase I like to call Pre-Trash.

And it seems Free is rarely synonymous with Clean.

Out here in the country, there's an occasional live mouse too. Oh, how the other yard sale shoppers laughed and laughed when this former city girl yelped and shot several feet off the ground the first time that happened.

Good times.

But I always look in the Free Box. With just my eyes now.

And I'm happy (and a little amazed) to report that everything you see came from a Free Box.

Hope you're having a wonderful weekend so far.

  2. Wow! I have not seen free box stuff. The only thing that comes close is at an auction where they throw in another box to keep the bidding or help the bidding.

  11. I looked in a few free boxes today, but nothing, not even a mouse. You know, I live in the country, and I'd have shrieked if I saw a mouse in the free box. I'm glad you found good, non-moving things.

  12. I always look thru the free box. Made the mistake one time of walking by it at an estate sale thinking I would scope it out AFTER I ran thru the house and shopped. When I went back to check it out...someone had TAKEN THE ENTIRE BOX...nothing left to sort thru - not even the box! Learned a lesson that day...but you did just dandy!

  15. in AR, it is not the mouse you fear, but the Brown Recluse Spider.

Aw, who am I kidding? I fear the mouse too.

But not enough to avoid the free box!

  16. At least the mouse was alive. So much better than a smooshed, dried up, dead mouse. Yuck. Love what you found for free! The free boxes I've seen not only don't have anything I want but don't even arouse the interest of a live mouse!

  18. You really scored with the free box. I've not found anything quite that good in a free box. We have little field mice all around but a spider would put me back 10 ft.

  19. Wowee, you got lots of great stuff in that free box. I like it at auctions when they can't sell a box or two and they keep adding boxes until they get a bid...I always bid on those. LOL

  23. You are so lucky! I hit 5 or 6 sales this weekend and no free box at any of them! Most of the time when I do find them they are junk, but sometimes I find a jewel!

  26. I used to use the free box to keep the kids busy while I rummaged. They're pretty smart kids, they started pulling out stuff for me! That's a good way to get on Mom's good side ya know.

Nobody said thrifting was a pretty job, but it's never dull!

  27. Oh my gosh!!! I love everything you got, but the items that touched me the most were the white bud vases...*sigh* I'm 60 yrs old but I remember when I was a little girl and my mom had several of those very same vases in the kitchen to put sprigs of lilacs or roses from the back yard. Those vases really brought back some fond, fond memories. Thanks for sharing your treasures with us. (keep and eye out for mice, lol.
