Just because I like to say 'Doodads'

I don’t recall when it began but at some point I started setting aside little vintage doodads that turn up in the boxes and bags of things I bring home from yard sales and thrift stores.*

A fleet of little sleighs came mixed in with vintage Christmas ornaments.

Itty, bitty deer appeared.

Tiny, tiny white mice were found in the bottom of a bag. (These are a tremendous improvement over my last experience…)

Little candy baskets started stacking up along with the occasional googley-eyed glitter bird. (Blogger’s spell check rejects all of my versions of ‘googley.’ )

Bells of all shapes and sizes.

And one spun head.
All of these doodads end up in a bag marked ‘Ethel’ because The Vintage Crafter will know exactly what to do with them.

*Despite bringing home boxes and bags of things from yard sales and thrift stores, I swear on my stack of newspapers from 1987 that I am not a hoarder.

  2. I think you are cleared of all hoarding charges if you know how to reassemble all the tiny pieces and send them off together to someone who can use them! Great gathering!

  8. Ha ha! Adorable little miscellaneous pieces of cuteness! I've yet to see a live mouse inhabiting vintage goodies, but I've seen what they leave behind. :@

  9. I smiled when I read your post about doodads as it reminds me of my grandma. Your "doos" are as cute as your "dads" and it will be interesting to see how they are used!

  10. Having sent a few of these objects off to the thrift store just two days ago, I can proudly declare that there is no chance - none, zip, zero - that I am a hoarder. It's a good feeling. I hope I can make it last more than 48 hours. Shooting for at least 72.

  11. Ah you'd love all the old vintage goodies we come across in estate sales. Some of the doodads are so pretty I want to home them all, then I remember we already have a tonne of Christmas stuff and not enough space for them all already!

  13. It always amazes me how Ethel can take a bunch of doodads and turn them into something spectacular!
After finding my old hula hoop while snooping around in my Mom's garage, I've come to realize that the hoarding nut doesn't fall too far from the hoarding tree....

  14. You can't be a hoarder since you are "saving" them for Miss Ethel. She will do her magic and someone will have a very wonderful treasure. What a good friend you are to "hoard" for someone else. :>)

  15. I have this same conversation with myself all the time. I decided that as long as it stays in the garage, it will be classified only as pre-hoarding. As long as we have a plan to re-sell, we're good to go. Keep all the vintage Christmas goodies coming.

  18. Had to smile really big upon seeing the little "googly-eyed" bird (and that word describes him perfectly)! I have two of them from my childhood - one white like yours, and one pink. They are some of my favorite vintage ornaments and always remind of the years my Momma and I would set up a small white tabletop Christmas tree in my room, decorated with all kinds of pink and white ornaments. The little tree is long gone but I do have several of the tiny pink glass balls - and of course, my "googly-eyed birds" :) Thanks for the memories!
