This was me when a package arrived from Julie at Jane's Apron.

That's right. I know I may have led you to believe my personal style tends to be more 'pajama-oriented' but at that particular moment I was just hanging out in my pink vintage-chic dress and white gloves, channeling Marlo Thomas during her "That Girl" years.

Back to the package.

Appropriately, Jane's Apron was giving away a copy of Apronology (which I want to spell Apronologie thanks to Anthropologie) and yours truly was The Winner!

Julie of Jane's Apron had two of her aprons featured in the magazine and I find that amazing and inspiring! How exciting to see something you've made published. Aprons off to Julie!

Let's all turn to page 48 and admire her work. Of course, I'm especially thrilled to see she sews with vintage linens. Love that!

When Julie emailed me to tell me I had won, I babbled on about how charming her note cards are (I had admired them in her etsy shop) and she generously included a set of them in the package she sent me. Thank you Julie!

All this apron talk reminded me of some of the aprons I've made here and there -- not many but here's few.
I've read Apronology cover to cover now and seeing all those apron ideas has definitely inspired me to get my apron on. Stay tuned for further details.

Hope you have a fantastic weekend!

Other People's Blogs

Late at night when the light is dim and I can no longer make out the microscopic eye of the needle on the sewing machine, I like to slip on my drugstore reading glasses, settle into the slipcover-challenged sofa and surf.

I was looking around a blog I'd never seen before, just glancing at photos, not really reading, when I saw this great collection of vintage tablecloths. Bell & whistles started going off.
In my head, I mean.

I started reading and saw my etsy shop mentioned in the post with the tablecloths. Weird, right? I know! Of course then I had to read the whole darn blog and of course, I loved it! I especially love this vintage dining room, right down to the painted china hutch.

The blog is Meadowbrook Farm. I'll leave the rest of it's vintage goodness for you to discover. Hope you love it as much as I do. Thanks Teresa, for sharing your beautiful photos.

Christmas Wedgies

With family members far and wide, Christmas dinner this year will be with a group of friends, about a dozen of us. My assignment is appetizers and while researching some options in a vintage Betty Crocker's Good and Easy Cook Book (I am all for 'good' and definitely prefer 'easy'), I came across a snack recipe for "Wedgies."

As in, "Would you like a Wedgie with your glass of wine?" So very tempting for all the wrong reasons! If I didn't suspect the main ingredient, bologna, to be on the Things-I-Won't-Eat-List of several of the dinner guests, I'd be showing up with a Santa platter piled high with Wedgies. If only for all the dorky jokes we could make.

Some other suggestions from this cookbook that I won't be making include Anchovy-Wrapped-Olive Rolls and something called Angels on Horseback*. I can't recall any holiday meal I've attended or prepared where things like this were served. Can you? Maybe you've been served something even worse? I hope it wasn't the Stuffed Heart or Broiled Lamb Kidneys on page 108. Ack!

Oddly enough, Betty C. herself wrote a note at the beginning of this cook book asking,  "What can I serve that my family and friends will enjoy?" I don't think it's going to be the Wedgies this year, Mrs. Crocker. Guess I'll just make cheese puffs again. Or maybe you can suggest something that's good and easy.

*My apologies to any bacon-wrapped-toothpick-speared-oyster fans.

Pile-up

The stacks continue to grow.

Things to sew become things to photograph which become things to list on etsy.

Hopefully they'll become things to pack and ship.

And I'm really looking forward to getting through this stack.

I subscribe to an embarrassing number of magazines although that number has dropped a bit with the demise of Domino, Country Home, Blueprint*, Mary E's Home Companion (that one really hurt, it was my favorite!) and now Gourmet. Happily, there are still those random, impulse magazine purchases that seem to make their way into my shopping cart.  I'm pretty sure that's why they're displayed at the cash register right next to my other nemesis, candy.

I've been hearing about this book quite a bit and recently purchased it on ebay - lots of favorite bloggers along with many new-to-me ones too.

I must have forgotten to eat or something because I signed up to sell at another holiday bazaar. Details forthcoming. Looks like there'll be some extra busy days ahead for me in my doily factory.

*A special thanks to  Domino's publishers for hitting the nail on the head when they replaced my Domino subscription with Glamour magazine. That always makes me laugh when it shows up in my mailbox.
