a moving tale

I've been trying all week to think of something funny to say about moving and I can't think of a single thing.

Perhaps you've been fortunate enough not to move recently. I'm pretty sure I've done enough moving for all of us as this is Move #4 in five years and somewhere in the fine print it says I can get my head examined for free with the fifth move. Sign me up.

And it's not the moving that's so bad, it's having to change names, identities and hair color every time. The disguises are really getting to me.

Just kidding there - no need to notify the authorities. All have been 'job-related' moves.

My little doily factory has been dismantled, numbered, catalogued and boxed. I'm up to 33 so far and I'm inching closer toward that final box -- you know the one -- that weird mix of random stuff like one flip flop, some loose rickrack, a can of spray paint, cat toys, a book about Cocker Spaniels and my wallet. Clearly labeled 'miscellaneous.'

Because that'll tell me everything I need to know four days from now when the unpacking begins.

Hoping to be settled very soon and looking forward to less of this

and more of this.

Be back soon!

  1. My prayers are with ya sister! We moved in January and things haven't been the same since. (I guess that's the point, duuhhhhh.) Half of the garage is still full of boxes and there are at least 3 things per box that I throw back in because I have no idea why I kept them. So, now I have these weird leftovers boxes that I need to do something with.
I hope you enjoy your new house!

  2. I absolutely loathe moving. I always feel like a cat being removed from the carrier at the veterinarians office if even the word comes up! Good luck! At least it looks as if you've got everything nice and organized for unpacking.

  4. Girl I'm in the middle of moving, too! This will be my 31rst. I hate misc. boxes! Or when I have 4 boxes sitting there 3/4 full. Makes me feel like I'll explode! Ha! I actually enjoy unpacking and do so very quickly. I can't wait! Hang in there. You're getting closer! ♥

  5. We tend to move and stay put. My husband swears he won't move again. Weirdly I like the boxing up, what I hate is the unloading and putting away at the other end! Good luck!

  6. Bless your heart! Hang in there!

We have moved 5 times in 10 years and in 3 different states. I hate the smell of cardboard!

  7. That's WAY too many moves in 5 years! Hope this one sticks for a while! Funny about the disguises...made me giggle!

You look pretty organized--great job! Hope things go well, and that you're quickly relaxing on your front porch....aahhh!

  8. Praying that this move will be smooth for you. We moved into our home we have now 4 years ago and hubby said he will not move again! And if we have to then he is selling the house with everything in it! LOL!! Have a blessed day!

  9. HOLY COW...ms. organization! If you ever give up on the doily factory (which I hope never happens) it looks like you may have a career in how to move successfully and stay organized (except for the one flip flop and spray paint box!) Good luck!

  14. Thank goodness we haven't had to move in five whole wonderful years. But before that we moved a lot. I feel for ya. The only good thing about it is getting to decorate a new house!

  15. Amy, sounds like you might be my neighbor soon. If so, everything will be just "DUCKY":) Don't believe all that hype about how great it is not to have a sales tax, cause next April 15, when you have to pay state tax, you won't feel any advantagage:) I turn 53 this year and I had already moved 30 times at the age of 15. Slowed down the pace just a bit in adulthood. But let's see in the last 7 years, after leaving Texas, I've moved 6 times...Needless to say, I never volunteer to help someone else move:)

  16. I feel your pain, we moved 4 times in 5 years. All because of my husband's job. Now we've been settled for 5 years. Seems like it ought to be time for another move soon. I hope all goes well with your move. You must be a pro at it by now. xo, suzy

  18. Your final box label sounds like all of my box labels. If we ever move again, it's all going to auction and we're starting fresh. Except for my pillows, of course! Hope all is going well!

  21. Oh my, I can't even imagine having to pack up my craft room after being here 25 years! You seem to be quite calm - so keep it up. Look forward to seeing all your creative designs when you are settled in your new home...

  22. I'm not sure I've ever seen such an organized move. Great idea to inventory boxes! I feel kinda stupid.
Moving makes my stomach hurt. I have been in my current home for 6 years. First time in my 39 years to live anywhere for this long. And.... I've been looking for a new home for a year! Not becuase I want to move but because it's "good timing for the investment". Blah blah blah. I don't want to move! Maybe that's why I haven't found a home in a year of searching.
    You can do it!!!
And just in case? "It" is in box #32.
